Company Profile: "Setting the standard" for training in the civil engineering industry. The NZ Institute of Highway Technology Ltd was founded in 1992 by the Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (formerly the Taranaki Polytechnic) as the Institute of Roading Technology to fill a gap in skills and technical training caused by the deregulation of the civil construction industry and the demise of the Ministry of Works in the early 1990’s. The NZ Institute of Highway Technology places a strong emphasis in providing quality programmes based on industry needs and utilises a permanent staff of eight. Its network of independent consultants who are experts in their respective fields, ensures courses reflect current industry practice and incorporate latest advances in technology. Transformed in 1996 into an independent company, NZIHT, although 100% owned by the Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki, operates independently with its own offices, administration and Board of Directors. The Institute is based in New Plymouth and operates primarily in New Zealand, but does present a limited range of its courses in Australia and the Pacific Islands as well as undertaking international consultancy projects. Currently the NZ Institute of Highway Technology is the biggest provider of civil engineering, technical and skills training in New Zealand.
